Performance measurement and risk management are great entry positions to get acquainted with asset management. Understanding all stages of the investment process ( asset allocation, risk based and/or liability related investing, benchmark setting, strategy implementation, transaction processing, etc. ) is essential in risk and performance evaluation. Therefore, it is not surprising that many asset management practitioners have started their careers in these fields.
If you are interested, a traineeship is opening with P&P and one of the largest and most professional asset managers in the Netherlands. At the company, a program for a redesign of operational processes is in progress, already staffed by Probability & Partners colleagues. The setting at this client is, therefore, excellent for a junior to learn into asset management and simultaneously strengthen P&P’s offering regarding asset management in general and performance measurement specifically.
Our client needs permanent staff for the future Probability needs to enlarge the number of performance and risk consultants. Therefore, we decided to cooperate and initiate a joint trainee program.
As a junior specialist, you work in teams to deliver timely performance and risk reports to internal and external users. In doing so, focus is on understanding reasons for unexpected and distrusted performance figures and on solving issues. You will get acquainted with systems that are widely used across many asset managers and that you will encounter in your future career in asset management.
You will also become a risk and performance measurement specialist, knowing everything about selection and allocation results, time weighted-performance, evaluation statistics, treating leverage in derivative instruments, (currency) overlays, (pension fund clients) liability matching, and so on. As a junior, you will contribute to daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly performance analysis and reporting.
Quickly you will get more responsibilities and act independently. You will investigate the risks components or performance sources in several client portfolios and advise the Heads of Risk and Performance about it. Furthermore, you will liaise with the portfolio managers.
Learning and personal development of the trainees is the other mail goal. The learning aspect is agreed upon with and will be accommodated by our client, which makes this an extraordinary opportunity for ambitious starters.
You will be coached and receive training by our client and P&P. Twenty percent of your time will be allocated to research in cooperation with Probability. Furthermore there is the opportunity to take part in professional education in the form of FRM or CIPM for example.
